Good deal: TD Aeroplan Infinite, 25k AP and First Year Free

UPDATE: You can currently get this promotion on GreatCanadianRebates with an additional $50 rebate!

TD is again allowing applications for the TD Aeroplan Infinite Visa for the first year free. They are giving 15k Aeroplan points for the first purchase, and an additional 10k for spending $1,000 in the first 90 days. You can apply here (this is not a referral). This promotion is ending October 31st, so act fast!

I called TD asking if I could just upgrade my current card, but was informed that I wouldn’t get the bonus points if I was upgrading from a lower-tier Aeroplan card, but would get the bonus if upgrading from a non-Aeroplan card.

  1. What do you think would be the response if I downgraded my card 3 months ago? Do you think they would upgrade and include the points? I think I am pushing my luck…

    1. I don’t imagine it’ll fly, but eh, the worst thing they say is no, right? There wouldn’t be a credit inquiry, so no harm trying.

  2. I currently have the TD Gold Elite Visa Card. Would I be able to apply for this one and get approved? SO far this entire year I have applied for 2 credit cards and I still have them. Also, I have the CIBC visa infinite Or should I cancel that card and apply for this card?

    1. Approval rates really depend on your personal credit history and income, so I can’t accurately predict that. However, it doesn’t sound like you’ve received that many cards this year – I got through more than a dozen annually. To that end, I woulnd’t advise cancelling any of your cards at this point. Make sure you meet the minimum requirements for the card, apply, and hopefully you’ll be approved.

Shameless plug: have you looked at getting the AMEX Gold card (as on my credit card page)? I find AMEX applications are a good marker of where your credit score is at, you get instant approval, and 25k AP points for free… I’d go for that card first, then go for the TD card. Oh, and always, I appreciate if you’d apply through my link on the credit cards page. I get a referral bonus, the only compensation I get for my time. 🙂

      1. Does it matter if I just recently got approved for the American Express AeroplanPlus Gold Card just last month?

Sure, I will go through your referral link, but I want to make sure I do this right so that I can start churning credit card for aeroplan points effectively without sacrificing too much of my credit score which is 770.

        1. 1) It doesn’t really matter whether you just got the AMEX Aeroplan card. I’ve at one point had 5 different AMEX products at one time.
          2) A credit score of 770 is very good.
          3) There’s not much to worry about it. A credit inquiry is not going to hurt you very much at all. They only start to hurt you if you’re doing a lot (like 10+ in a year). Unless you’re planning on applying for a major credit product in the next six months, like a mortgage, I would say go ahead. The worst they say is no, you lose 2-3 credit points, which then recovers in 6 months. Think of your credit score as an asset, to use carefully, but to leverage for your gain.

  3. I got the TD aeroplan visa infinite on Jan 2014 and cancelled on September 2014. Would I be eligible for the promo that ends Oct 31, 2014 or is it too soon to reapply.

    1. Unfortunately, you would not be eligible per the Terms and Conditions: “If you have opened an Account in the last 6 months, you will not be eligible for this offer.” Account is defined as: “TD Aeroplan Credit Card Account”
