Great deal: NBC World Elite Mastercard, up to $700 sign-up, FYF

National Bank is rarely on my radar, except perhaps for their wacky credit card promotions. This time, however, National Bank has a legitimately awesome promotion. The NBC World Elite Mastercard [this is not a referral] is offering $450 worth in points as a sign-up bonus (20,000 points on activation, 10,000 on anniversary). Further, the card has an annual reimbursement scheme of up to $250 for airport parking, seat selection, and baggage fees. Best of all, the annual fee of $150 is waived for the first year.

I’ve always been mildly interested by this card. It gives you access to the NBC Lounge in Montreal (which used to be a TD Visa Infinite lounge, and is pretty nice). Further, it has some of the best insurance protections of any card in Canada, including triple warranty protection (up to 2 extra years), theft/damage protection of 180 days, and other top-tier insurance coverages.

I signed up for it, as it’s one of the best deals going. I highly recommend it!

  1. Thanks for the update! I just had a quick question regarding the redemption of the points. How and what can we redeem the points for?

    1. Honestly, I don’t really know for sure. My understanding is that NBC points convert into a statement credit, and that World Elite cards have a better conversion ratio than other cards.

  2. From what I read, 11k points can be redeemed for $100 travel credit (or other stuff). I also think it’s 1.5 points/$, so you want to at least get to 22k points.

Looks like you might have to mail in forms to get reimbursed for parking, luggage fees and seat selection. That’s annoying if accurate.

On the linked rfd thread I read a post that says it’s actually the 2nd year that’s no fee? Do you know if that’s accurate or if it’s FYF?

  3. NBC Montreal YUL lounge isn’t nice at all
Very crowded very often, you can’t even get in, especially after MLL closes

I tried to get in May 2015, it was standing room only, and food was below average too
There were less people at my TK flight gate

  4. The $450 is actually $200 in points the first year, $100 in points the second year, and the $150 annual fee waiver.

  5. The NBC lounge in Montreal is only for international flights, excludes flights within Canada and to the USA.

  6. So you actually meet the minimum personal annual income of 70k or household income of 120k? Or you stretched *a little* when declaring?

I’ve stretched when I apply for one of BMO this year, I got declined, while I got approved by AMEX, TD, and MBNA. I guess BMO really checked my income, not only my credit score?

  7. How many lounges are there in Montréal?

I was waiting for a flight the other day for a domestic flight and randomly tried to enter a lounge with an AMEX Business Gold (the one you referred me to) and they said I could enter after checking the card.
