FINAL REMINDER: Amazing AMEX Offers (Canada)

There are some amazing American Express (Canada) sign-up bonuses right now. We don’t know when they’ll expire, but I’ve mentioned them a few times. This will be the final reminder about the special offers going on right now.

The American Express Platinum has just increased the sign-up bonus to 75,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $1,000 in the first three months of ownership. This is an amazing deal! We have never seen such a high sign-up offer on any card in Canada, ever.

The 75,000 Membership Rewards points can be converted 1:1 into Aeroplan and BA Avios (often with a 25% bonus to Avios).

Now, this card has a hefty annual fee of $699, however, in your first year, you will get two $200 travel credits (once per calendar year). This makes the effective first year fee $299. You also get complimentary lounge access, PLUS A GUEST, in any Premium Plaza lounge or Centurion lounge. Further, you get a complimentary Priority Pass, which lets you use hundreds of lounge around the world for free. You also get SPG Gold status, and a number of other benefits. Finally, you get the best travel insurance offered on any card in Canada.

The American Express Business Platinum is offering a 75,000 Bonus (convertible into 75,000 Aeroplan) after spending $5000 in three months. The annual fee is lower at $399, but there are no travel credits. However, you get essentially the same benefits as the personal card.

Am I eligible for the card if I don’t run a Business?

The word ‘Business’ is a broad term, and it could be argued that anyone who has ever sold or provided a service in exchange for value has a business. American Express has always seemed to be fine giving their business cards to people with no or little business activity (even a proposed business seems fine). In the business name field, if you are the business, simply put your name down, which acts as a sole-proprietor.

If you get both the business and personal card, you’ll have netted 150,000 bonus points for essentially $698, which is a fantastic deal. They can be converted into 150,000 Aeroplan points. 150,000 Aeroplan points gets you a return business class flights to almost anywhere in the world…

  1. I’m thinking about the business version of the card, but not sure how I’ll meet the minimum spend. Any suggestions?

    1. Take a look at BitGold. Can find with Amex. They charge 1% to use a CC, 1% buy fee, and 1% sell fee. However, on your first purchase, you get a 5% bonus. So you actually make 2% $, and can buy and sell same day (I did it and it worked flawlessly).

    2. Sounds silly I know, but how about spending it on your business? Or if you don’t have one, start one. Is everything a game? Kinda kills it for those of us who actually do as was intended by the company. Eventually these offers will go away permanently.
