Aeroplan Conversion Promo- 30% Bonus

From Nov. 7 – Dec. 12, Aeroplan has a hotel point conversion bonus. Similar to their regular promotions, their bonus is tiered as follows:

Number of Received Points Bonus Tier
 2,500 – 99,999  20%
 100,000 – 199,999  25%
 200,000 +  30%

Eligible Partners

The following programs are participating in this Aeroplan conversion promo: SPG, Marriott, Hilton, Club Carlson, Best Western, Wyndham, Coast Rewards, Choice Privileges, Accor, and Shangri-La.

The tiers are based on the total aggregate value of the points converted during the promotion period. So say you transfer 150,000 worth of Marriott points, and another transfer of 50,000 Accor points, you would fall within the 30% tier. In this case, you’d get an extra 60,000 points. There is no maximum number of bonus points earned through this promotion – if you transfer 500,000 points, you’re getting a 150,000 point bonus.

Good Conversion Options

There are a couple obvious transfer partners that represent excellent value. Since you get an extra 5,000 points whenever you convert 20,000 SPG points, 80,000 SPG points would convert into 125,000 Aeroplan points under the first tier. Another great option is to convert 83,333 SPG points into Marriot at a 1:3 ratio, which gives you about 250,000 Marriott points. Under the Marriott travel package reward scheme, that would give you 125,000 Aeroplan points and 7 nights at a category 1-5 Marriott hotel.

  1. You may want to update the article. It takes 270,000 Marriott points to get 7 nights at cat 1-5 and 120,000 miles

    1. Are you sure? If I read the Marriott Redemption table for Air Canada (“Hotel + Air Package 1:”), it says 250,000 Marriott points gets you 7 nights at cat. 1-5, and 100,000 Aeroplan points. Under the current Aeroplan promotion, that 100,000 would turn into 125,000 points… am I missing something?

      1. Oops, you are correct. I always transfer at the highest miles and missed looking at that column. A great deal any way you look at it. I’m planning to transfer two 120,000 million miles from Marriott

  2. I keep reading the fine print…. So what I keep coming up with is that the bonus is on the amount of Aeroplan miles earned after exchange. For example, I take 200,000 Hilton HHonors points and convert to Aeroplan miles. At the transfer rate of 10,000:1000 stated on the website the total Aeroplan miles earned would be 20,000, qualifying for a 4000 mile bonus(20% because the amount of Aeroplan miles earned is within 2500-99,999). Am I wrong?

    1. Yea, I’ve reread this enough times to figure it out. The information you’re giving on transferring Marriott + Accor points is incorrect as far as the number of Aeroplan miles earned.

  3. AMEX points are not included in this offer, but can transfer to hotel points, as well as to aeroplan. Is it worth it to transfer amex points to SPG for example and then to aeroplan to be able to get the bonus? And would that work?
