Rogers Bank Mastercard – The Chase Killer?

Traditionally, I would recommend a Chase credit card (either Amazon or Marriott) for all foreign exchange purchases, as previously, they were the only credit cards in Canada that don’t carry a forex surcharge, typically 2.5% of the amount charged. With those cards, you get an approximate 1% rate of return, with no annual fee on the Amazon card, and an annual fee on the Marriott that is offset with an annual hotel voucher. Now, the new Rogers Bank Mastercard may be better than either of these Chase cards for foreign exchange spending…

The Best Wine (That You Didn’t Know About)

Whenever you think of wine, you think of Burgundy, South Africa, California, etc. When you think Canadian wines, you think Niagara and the Okanagan. I travel a crap load, and have visited many of the great wine regions of the world. And I have to say, Prince Edward County produces some of the finest wines at the most reasonable prices.

HURRY! $50 off Shop.ca (no minimum) + 3,000 Aeroplan Points WITH TD Aeroplan Visa

Shop.ca is having a rather ridiculous promotion: using the promo code ‘TD’, you will get $50 off your purchase, with no minimum spend + 3,000 Aeroplan points when you link your Aeroplan number. You have to use a TD Aeroplan Visa, however, it looks like some non-Aeroplan branded TD Visas might work. As of right now, I could only get this to work once. Your final cost has to be at least 1 cent over $50, or the credit card won’t authorize (they tried to charge $99,999 on my’n!).

On the Future of DCTA

DCTA started more than a year ago. I have published over 200 posts in that time (that’s a lot of posting!). Some content has been, admitting my bias, excellent. Other content, not so much. And trust me, readers let me know when my content isn’t as great. Lately, you may have noticed that I’ve been posting less, with fewer analytical posts. You see, I’m coming to my final year of law school, am currently in the process of applying to med school (the debt, so much debt!), crazy amounts of travel, running my rather successful award booking service, and other life activities.

Great deal: NBC World Elite Mastercard, up to $700 sign-up, FYF

National Bank is rarely on my radar, except perhaps for their wacky credit card promotions. This time, however, National Bank has a legitimately awesome promotion. The NBC World Elite Mastercard [this is not a referral] is offering $450 worth in points as a sign-up bonus (20,000 points on activation, 10,000 on anniversary). Further, the card has an annual reimbursement scheme of up to $250 for airport parking, seat selection, and baggage fees. Best of all, the annual fee of $150 is waived for the first year.
