Lifemiles and how to get anywhere cheap: Part 1

I will not be posting or answering questions about which airports are “tricked” or how to specifically force a trick.

Lifemiles is the frequent flyer program for Star Alliance airline, Avianca, based in South America. All in all, it’s a pretty decent program for flight accruals, and has normal earning requirements for Star Alliance Gold.

I’m going to Oceania, but I don’t know what to do. Help!

I just booked an award trip to Sydney, flying: Air Canada Business from Toronto YYZ to Los Angeles LAX, then United First Class LAX to Sydney SYD. I have 10 days in the region, then I fly back SYD to Seoul ICN on Asiana Business, and ICN to Montreal YUL via Istanbul IST on Turkish Business. I paid around ~$400 for this ticket, and 190,000 Aeroplan points.

IHG Best Price Guarantee Explained

The Intercontinental Hotel Group (IHG), which includes brands like ‘Intercontinental Hotels’ and ‘Holiday Inn’, offers a Best Price Guarantee (BPG) program whereby if you book a hotel room on the ihg.com website, and within 24 hours you find a competitor website that sells the exact same room cheaper, restrictions and all, then they will comp the first night of your reservation (even if it’s a single night reservation), and then reduce the following nights of your reservation to the competitor rate. This is an extremely generous offer, and I have successfully engaged this BPG program a number of times for thousands of dollars of free hotel nights.
