MISTAKE FARE: Italy-Singapore-USA ~$338 Delta/Alitalia

This fare just won’t die… aaron1262 on Flyertalk reports that a mistake fare, where you go Italy (MXP or FCO) to Singapore, stay in Singapore, and go to the USA (SFO and EWR work so far) for ~$338 is back. There seems to be pretty wide availability, especially in December, April, and May. I haven’t played around with the fare too much yet.

Sunday Reader Questions: Your biggest travel mistake?

When you travel a lot, you’re bound to make some mistakes. A curious reader asked me what was your biggest travel mistake?

I’m pretty meticulous when I travel. I make detailed (though convoluted) travel itineraries, triple-check the information, and get a third party to read through it to make sure I’m not missing something. Unfortunately, on a trip to New Zealand, a glaring mistake was made.

Review: Starwood Preferred Guest AMEX

Starwood Preferred Guest ("SPG") points are extremely valuable. They transfer 1:1 to a number of airline partners, which provides extreme flexibility, and if you transfer 20,000 points at a time, you get a 5,000 point bonus, which means an effective 1:1.25 transfer rate. Further, SPG points can be used at thousands of Starwood properties, which includes some great budget options at 2,000 points per night, and some extremely luxurious properties that would be otherwise unaffordable. Further, if you redeem four nights on points, the fifth night is free. All in all, SPG points are one of the most valuable points options out there.

Website Updates

Please note that over the next couple days I’ll be doing some pretty dramatic website updates. As you can tell, the theme has changed substantially. There are still a number of bugs I’m trying to work out. Don’t be alarmed if things look weird/different!
