WOW! Air Canada Altitude Parental Leave

Air Canada's frequent flyer program, Altitude, has recently introduced a progressive program for members on parental leave. For either new mums or dads who have documented parental leave from work, Air Canada will allow you to "hold" your elite benefits during the course of that leave, and then extend your status for a minimum of twelve months once you return to work.

“Enhancement” – Aeroplan Change/Refund Fees (hint: it sucks)

For many years, Aeroplan charged $90+tax per person for any change or refund to an Aeroplan ticket. This fee applied without regard to the significance of the change – any change came with that fee. For refunds within 22 days before departure, the fee was $90+tax to change the booking to a trip outside 22 days, and an additional $90 to refund that ticket.

Air Canada and VIA Rail Reprotection Agreement

A couple days ago, I was flying from Kingston YGK to Las Vegas LAS, via Toronto YYZ. Unfortunately, there was very heavy fog in YGK, and a flight from YYZ was diverted to Ottawa YOW, and there were rolling delays at YGK. As a result of the delays, there wasn’t going to be enough time to catch my connection to LAS. I approached Air Canada, and they suggested I wait for a couple hours (thank goodness I didn’t, the flight I was originally scheduled to fly, around 5PM, didn’t fly out until close to midnight!). I remembered reading about the Air Canada/VIA Rail Reprotection Agreement, which allows Air Canada passengers to use VIA Rail on a segment if it is significantly disrupted.
