Recently HSBC updated the welcome bonus for its World Elite Mastercard. We are happy to report that HSBC has improved its offer. The card remains first-year-free (FYF) and the total number of points you can earn in the first 90 days stays the same, but rate at which you can earn those points has dramatically increased, improving the odds that you will actually get the full benefit of the bonus. Overall, this is a great offer for a solid travel card.
Last week, Scotia unveiled a revamped AMEX gold card. We see this card as a potential challenger to the AMEX Cobalt but despite some new features, Scotia Rewards just aren’t as valuable other reward options and the welcome bonus doesn’t do enough to offset the annual fee to entice us to apply. So, for now anyway, we’ll have to pass on this card.
Slovenia’s main airport, Joze Pucnik Airport, is nothing to write home about in terms of amenities or interesting features (no waterfalls or botanical gardens) but it is reminiscent of a much simpler travelling experience. Despite being the country’s largest airport, and main transit hub, it’s still pretty small and has only a single lounge. The lounge is very un-confusingly named the LJU Business Lounge.

Because BA is a member of One World, the Avios program offers Canadians the ability to book flights on One World partner airlines, like American Airlines for U.S. travel and Cathay Pacific for Asian travel.

This is part of DCTA’s new series where we break down all the easy ways to get hard to earn miles and points. As Canadians, we don’t have access to all the great credit cards or promotions that our American neighbours take for granted, so DCTA is always keeping an eye out for new offers. In this edition we look at earning extra Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles through their ongoing Alaska Airlines Hotels promotion, in partnership with Rocketmiles.
