Sunday Reader Question: What are married segments?

Sometimes when you’re searching for award space, be it on Aeroplan, United, Delta, etc., you’ll find that some seats will show as available when you search for them from origin to destination, but when you call to book the flights segment-by-segment, those flights show as unavailable. Often, this is caused by married segment logic. Today’s Sunday Reader Question is: what are married segments?

I’m in Houston… and I missed my flight…

…and it’s totally awesome.

I was flying from Austin to Colorado Springs via Houston, and there was a ground-stop in Houston. I missed my connection to Colorado Springs. For most folks, missing a connection is a horrible experience. Not for this guy! I have an awesome insurance provider. I have $350 to blow on a “meal” which is undefined (contra proferentem for the win!). I’m currently enjoying oysters, chocolate chip cookies, and champagne in Houston, waiting for the next flight. I love it.

Sunday Reader Question: What credit card should I be using for everyday purchases?

As a credit card churner, I spend a lot of timing thinking about which credit cards to get for their sign-up bonuses. However, I don’t put too much thought into which credit card to use for day-to-day purchases. I spend maybe $10,000-$15,000 dollars a year, and don’t manufacture spend too often anymore. Therefore, it has always seemed a little trivial which credit card to use for everyday purchases. For foreign purchases, I use the Chase Amazon Visa (no foreign exchange fees), and I usually use the AMEX SPG credit card for day-to-day purchases, or the MBNA Alaska credit card for places that don’t take AMEX. I’ve rethought how I should manage my credit portfolio…

Lufthansa First Class Award Space Wide Open 2016

I’m on my phone right now travelling, so I can’t make a substantive post. I was informed (their original source was on a Flyertalk post) that Lufthansa First Class availability is WIDE open in 2016, using the United search tool. This is special because Lufthansa First Class is usually only released 14 days or so before departure. I don’t know if this is bookable, or if it is bookable using Aeroplan. Once I get access to computer, if it’s still live, I’ll write more.
