IHG Best Price Guarantee – Policy Change?

One of my favourite programs is the IHG Best Price Guarantee (BPG). This program will, subject to a number of terms, provide you with a free night at any IHG hotel if you can find a rate from a competitor that is lower and matches or beats the terms of the booked rate on IHG’s website. I have received many dozens of free nights with this program, from $1000/night rooms at Intercontinental hotels, and cheapo Holiday Inn hotels.

My SPG Best Rate Guarantee Experience

Many hotel programs offer a Best Rate Guarantee (BRG) program, where the chain will beat any price listed by another online travel agent (subject to a laundry-list of terms and conditions). SPG has recently upped their BRG offer: you can select either a 20% discount on the matched rate, or 2,000 SPG points. Previously, the offer was a 10% discount on the matched rate. Moreover, unlike a number of other BRG programs, with SPG you don’t need to book before you submit a BRG claim. I recently did this, and will explain my experience and provide some tips for when you do it.

IHG Best Price Guarantee Explained

The Intercontinental Hotel Group (IHG), which includes brands like ‘Intercontinental Hotels’ and ‘Holiday Inn’, offers a Best Price Guarantee (BPG) program whereby if you book a hotel room on the ihg.com website, and within 24 hours you find a competitor website that sells the exact same room cheaper, restrictions and all, then they will comp the first night of your reservation (even if it’s a single night reservation), and then reduce the following nights of your reservation to the competitor rate. This is an extremely generous offer, and I have successfully engaged this BPG program a number of times for thousands of dollars of free hotel nights.
