Possible Mistake: Delta Skymiles Showing Near Unlimited Partner Availability (sometimes)

One of my part-time jobs is as an award booker. I was recently working on a file using Delta Skymiles, and was facing a number of oddities on the Delta.com website. For example, there was a Virgin Atlantic flight that I wanted. It wasn’t appearing on a normal Delta search, nor was it showing as available to the Delta phone agents. However, if I put my browser into incognito mode, logged out of my Skymiles account, and searched initially using the “flexible” search option, that flight showed up, and showed up as bookable (and booked!)

Good deal: Fares from Ottawa to Singapore/Ho Chi Minh City/Bangkok/Hong Kong/Shanghai – $670-740 on United/Air Canada/Delta

Although these aren't stunning fares, Ottawans will know how expensive flights to Asia are from Ottawa, and anything under the $900 mark is pretty good (darn Torontonians and their major international airport!!).

Right now, you can fly between Ottawa YOW and Singapore SIN; Ho Chi Minh City SGN; Bangkok BKK; Hong Kong HKG and Shanghai PVG for between $670-$740 round-trip, taxes included.

Earn Skymiles (Delta Airlines) by Flying Westjet

Starting January 1, 2014, you can earn Skymiles by flying Westjet. If the ticket is sold by Westjet, you can still credit the miles to Skymiles - the flight doesn't have to be ticketed by Delta (006 ticket stock) to be eligible for mile accrual. However, no matter how your Westjet flight is ticketed, you will not be eligible for either Medallion Qualification Miles (MQM), or for our friends down South, Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQD). You will also not get a Medallion tier bonus for those miles.

MISTAKE FARE: Italy-Singapore-USA ~$338 Delta/Alitalia

This fare just won’t die… aaron1262 on Flyertalk reports that a mistake fare, where you go Italy (MXP or FCO) to Singapore, stay in Singapore, and go to the USA (SFO and EWR work so far) for ~$338 is back. There seems to be pretty wide availability, especially in December, April, and May. I haven’t played around with the fare too much yet.

Good deal: Montreal YUL to Hong Kong HKG for ~$665USD (3.6CPM) on Delta Airlines

There’s a good deal going between Montreal YUL and Hong HKG on Delta Airlines. This fare doesn’t show up on ITA Matrix, but it does both on Kayak.com and google.ca/flights. It’s bookable between September and March, with fairly wide availability. If you’re looking at doing this is a mile run, you can get around 3.6CPM, which is pretty good for a Canadian flight.
