On April 16, 2012, Aeroplan blocked all redemptions to any Cuban city. Their reasoning was that Air Canada flights to Cuba were actually run by Air Canada Vacations, and they were looking to align their operations.
This looks like a glitch, as Turkish is releasing at least 8 Business Class seats for most summer dates, from now until the end of August for award bookings. This availability will not last long, so if you’re looking for summer travel, BOOK NOW!
Copa Airlines, a South American Star Alliance airline, hasn’t been bookable on Aeroplan for a while. They’re a pretty good airline for award availability, and Aeroplan doesn’t charge fuel surcharges (YQ) on them. Aeroplan has been the only Star Alliance frequent flyer program that hasn’t been able to book Copa flights. Throughout the year, there have been short periods, in terms of hours, that Copa has been bookable. Right now, Copa is bookable. This could be a permanent fix to the issue, or could be short lasting.
Typically, you can’t get status miles (or any kind of miles!) from an award ticket. However, there seems to be a glitch where you can collect Virgin Australia miles flying on a Delta award ticket.
