Is this the best credit card in Canada?

There are lots of great sign-up bonuses for cards in Canada, but what is the best credit card to use on a daily basis?

The Scotiabank Momentum Visa Infinite might meet the mark. The card doesn’t have a sign-up bonus, and does have a $99 annual fee, but this fee is waived for the first year (this ends May 31), and it has a 4% return on gas station and grocery store purchases!

Great deal: ~$55CAD discount on hotel, min spend ~$100, no night min

MakeMyTrip, a large Indian online travel agency, is currently offering, until February 25 (not sure what time zone they’re using), a discount of 2750 INR (~$55CAD) when using their app with the promotional code “APPFEST”. The minimum spend is 5000 INR (~$100CAD), but there is no minimum night requirement. Say you’re staying a week at a hotel, you can simply book 7 single-night stays, and have netted a ~$385CAD discount. After booking (and waiting a day to make sure the hotel receives the reservations), simply call the hotel to merge the reservations.

HURRY! $50 off Shop.ca (no minimum) + 3,000 Aeroplan Points WITH TD Aeroplan Visa

Shop.ca is having a rather ridiculous promotion: using the promo code ‘TD’, you will get $50 off your purchase, with no minimum spend + 3,000 Aeroplan points when you link your Aeroplan number. You have to use a TD Aeroplan Visa, however, it looks like some non-Aeroplan branded TD Visas might work. As of right now, I could only get this to work once. Your final cost has to be at least 1 cent over $50, or the credit card won’t authorize (they tried to charge $99,999 on my’n!).

Great deal: NBC World Elite Mastercard, up to $700 sign-up, FYF

National Bank is rarely on my radar, except perhaps for their wacky credit card promotions. This time, however, National Bank has a legitimately awesome promotion. The NBC World Elite Mastercard [this is not a referral] is offering $450 worth in points as a sign-up bonus (20,000 points on activation, 10,000 on anniversary). Further, the card has an annual reimbursement scheme of up to $250 for airport parking, seat selection, and baggage fees. Best of all, the annual fee of $150 is waived for the first year.
