Just some good deals to Asia from Toronto and Vancouver… as usual, use ITA Matrix to find fares, book through an OTA like Kayak.

I will be speaking at PointsU in Toronto on October 22nd at the Toronto Region Board of Trade. Not only will you get the opportunity to hear lots of cool presenters who share lots of cool things, you’ll also get to meet bloggers and other points fanatics!
Air China releases an immense number of award seats, including First Class in abundance. While every Star Alliance frequent flyer program, including Aeroplan, should be able to book those Air China award seats, Aeroplan has purposefully blocked all Air China seats for quite a while. As of today, it looks like Aeroplan can now book Air China awards (again)! This is great, especially considering Air China flies to Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal, and there are no fuel surcharges when using Aeroplan. Note that the flight between Montreal and Havana cannot be booked.

Just playing around tonight, and found that the Aria in Las Vegas has a rate of $29/night for Aug 30 – Sep 2. This includes a $125 food/beverage credit. Now, if you book on Orbitz using the promo code MASTERCARD150 through their hotel+flight option, leaving from Chicago Aug 30 – Sep 2, your final price will come to $38 for the three nights. You enter the promo code at the end, under the heading “how would you like to pay?” You don’t need to fly the flights (though it’s that much better if from Chicago!). Can include flight from whatever city you want, but you’ll pay for it.
Like any good reader would know, when you get the American Express Platinum card, while paying a $699 annual fee, you get a $200 travel credit per calendar year. That means if you get the card a couple weeks before January 1, you will get two $200 credits for your first annual fee. Further, if you cancel your card within a month of the next annual fee posting, it is Amex’s longstanding policy to give you a full refund.
