I’m currently planning a trip for my parents to Turkey. They both had 60,000 IHG points, and I wanted them to have a “splurge” trip rather than staying at a cheaper hotel. I was trying to book them two nights at the Intercontinental Istanbul, which costs 50,000 points per night. A while ago, I booked a trip between Sydney SYD and Nuku’Alofa (Tonga) TBU using Aeroplan. On Star Alliance, the only routing available is via Auckland AKL on Air New Zealand, and only in economy (Air New Zealand barely releases business inventory to partner airlines – however, you can typically find one business seat on Shanghai PVG to Auckland AKL). I was just sitting on the sofa, and got an email from Equifax saying there’s been a “rate change” to a credit report. I logged in and saw that the credit score dropped significantly. I dug deeper, and I saw that a credit card was listed as being late, as “bad debt.” WHAT. THE. HELL!? I’ve never missed a payment in my life.
